Spring Camporee
The first weekend of May saw another ambitious district camporee as
Great Western held its first medieval campout.
Some 300 scouts and 100 adults camped in perfect weather at the Firelands Reservation
in Lorain County Friday and Saturday nights.
The competition began Saturday with patrols taking part in catapault building, an
obstacle course, string maze, archery, caber toss, sheaf toss, stone, hammer and grenade
throw and other ancient tests of skill and strength.
This all led up to the Grand Battle waged on the hallowed battle ground near the
campsites Saturday afternoon. Under the leadership of a King and Queen for each team, the
Blue Army finally bested the Red Army to take the title.
After a hearty dinner, awards were given out at a campfire on the peninsula.
